Mosquitoes aren’t just annoying—they change how you use your property. You stop using the deck. Kids don’t want to play outside. Even cutting the grass turns into a battle. Most people try the usual things first—citronella, sprays, bug zappers—but those only go so far. When the population gets out of control, it usually means there’s an active breeding source nearby.
That’s where we come in. We focus on locating those hidden problem areas and dealing with them directly. Whether it’s water collecting where it shouldn’t or shaded areas where mosquitoes rest during the day, we address both sides of the issue. The goal is simple: fewer bites, less frustration, and being able to actually enjoy your yard again.
Mosquito control isn’t one single treatment—it is a combination of steps done properly.
- Reducing standing water around the property
- Treating vegetation where mosquitoes rest
- Interrupting the breeding cycle with larvicides
- Creating a barrier around your yard
Most treatments take under an hour depending on the property size, and in some cases, follow-ups are recommended to keep things under control long-term.
If you have spent even one summer evening outside in Calgary, you already know—mosquitoes don’t take long to show up.
All it really takes is a bit of standing water and some warm weather. Backyard ponds, clogged gutters, low spots in your lawn, even a forgotten bucket—those are perfect breeding grounds. Once they get going, populations can build fast and make your yard almost unusable.
In areas like Airdrie, Cochrane, and Okotoks, it’s even more noticeable with nearby green spaces and water sources. And here’s the frustrating part: without dealing with the source, they just keep coming back year after year.
One of the biggest challenges with mosquito control is how quickly their populations can increase. A single female mosquito can lay between 50 and 300 eggs at a time, and under Calgary's warm summer conditions—especially after periods of heavy rain—those eggs can develop into biting adults in as little as one to two weeks. In ideal conditions, some mosquito species complete their entire life cycle in just 5 to 7 days.
Mosquitoes require standing water to reproduce, even in surprisingly small amounts. Bird baths, clogged gutters, children's toys, flower pots, rain barrels, uncovered containers, and low spots in lawns can all provide suitable breeding sites. Because the life cycle is so short, eliminating standing water early is one of the most effective ways to reduce mosquito populations before they become established.
The mosquito life cycle consists of four stages:
Eggs: Female mosquitoes lay batches of eggs on or near standing water. Depending on weather conditions, the eggs may hatch within 24 to 48 hours.
Larvae: Often called "wrigglers," mosquito larvae live in the water where they feed on microscopic organisms. This stage typically lasts between 4 and 10 days.
Pupae: During the pupal stage, mosquitoes continue developing beneath the water's surface. Although they do not feed, they remain active and usually emerge as adults within 1 to 3 days.
Adults: Newly emerged mosquitoes rest briefly while their wings dry before taking flight. Female mosquitoes are capable of mating within 24 to 48 hours and require a blood meal to produce eggs. After feeding, they can lay another batch of eggs every few days, allowing mosquito populations to increase rapidly throughout the summer if breeding sites remain untreated.
Because mosquitoes reproduce continuously during the season, waiting until they become a nuisance often allows multiple generations to develop. Early treatment combined with reducing standing water around your property is the most effective way to keep mosquito populations under control.

We’ve been dealing with Calgary pest problems for years, and mosquitoes are one of the most common summer complaints. The difference is knowing where to look and how to stop them at the source—not just chasing the symptoms
